Where Alphorns Grow Outside the Front Door

Winter in Interlaken has way more to offer than just fun on the slopes: Here, ancient traditions and crafts are deliberately fostered. Let our «Tales of winter handwork» inspire you to take a closer look!
«I spend a week of my life on every alphorn», says Heinz. So it’s no wonder that he dedicates all his skill to creating this traditional Swiss instrument. The alphorns are produced in the mountain village of Habkern, where the best tonewood grows just outside his front door. For Heinz, alphorn manufacture is a family affair in which his father, the owner of a village sawmill, is also actively involved. Heinz is particularly proud when his instruments are played – whether in Habkern’s fantastic mountain world or on international TV channels.
