MELODRAMMA IN THREE ACTS (1900)
MUSIC GIACOMO PUCCINI (1858-1924)
BOOKLET AND LUIGI GIUSEPPE GIACOSA ILLICA
BASED PART OF VICTORIAN SARDOU
Paris – A romantic singer, passionate, jealous and impulsive; a romantic painter, and idealistic freedom fighter; a Chief Police starved of flesh, blood and power, anything to get his way: Puccini artfully combines the ingredients of a melodrama written for Sarah Bernhardt and consists somehow opera opera a fresco at once primitive and decadent. In a mythical and real Rome, from the depths of Sant’Andrea della Valle church on the terrace of Castel Sant’Angelo, the passions collide and tear, erotic merges with the sacred love with possession the theater with life. Everything is pretense in Tosca : the ladies who come to pray are conspiratorial, defeats are victories and mock executions are real. Breakneck work that, like few others, captures the essence of lyrical theater.
Pierre Audi sign for the Opéra de Paris a new production of this violent and passionate work.
