The Gloaming

Lincoln Center’s white light festival

In describing the five-man supergroup called The Gloaming, singer Iarla Ó Lionáird recounts an image from Gaelic poet Seán Ó Ríordáin, where a farmer tosses a handful of seeds into the air to gauge the wind: “I want our music to convey the stillness before the seeds begin to fall,” he says. Featuring master Irish fiddler Martin Hayes and New York pianist Thomas Bartlett a.k.a. Doveman, a favorite collaborator of Nico Muhly and David Byrne, The Gloaming creates sparse, ephemeral meditations on the spaces in between cultures, generations, and darkness and the light of day.   Date:  Friday, October 16 at 7:30 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, Symphony Space
