OPEN FURNITURE MONTH: WRITING IN THE FRENCH EIGHTEENTH CENTURY

Until 29 February

London – Open Furniture Month at The Wallace Collection is a unique opportunity to look inside some of our most important pieces of furniture, including works by Jean-Henri Riesener, Jean-François Oeben and Jean-François Leleu. This year’s theme explores the significance of writing in eighteenth century France, and how the popularity of this fashionable activity influenced the production of furniture. Come and discover the colourful interiors, secret compartments and ingenious mechanisms of our remarkable desks and secretaires.

Want to know more? Book now for our evening lecture series, including a talk on Monday 1 February by Linley London’s founder David Linley on eighteenth-century influences on twenty-first-century furniture, while Curator Helen Jacobsen will explore the life of an eighteenth-century cabinet maker on Friday 26 February.
