The photograph above by David Ross Photography, is Culzean Castle & Country Park, a personal favorite of your’s truly as well as one of the National Trust for Scotland’s most iconic properties. It holds special significance for Americans because of its long and distinguished association with President Dwight Eisenhower, who was given use of an apartment on the castle’s top floor in thanks for his leadership in World War II.
We are running this today because Culzean is challenged to raise $45,000 by December to support the restoration of the Walled Garden at Culzean Castle & Country Park. If successful, NTSUSA Treasurer Kennedy Richardson – whose ancestors built Culzean – will match that amount dollar-for-dollar, allowing the National Trust for Scotland to move forward with its plans to restore the landscape into a fully functioning 19th-century kitchen garden.
P.S. The “z” in Culzean is silent…..
